In today's world, every girl dreams of being self-confident and sexy. Far too often we forget that the ability to feel this way is all in our head. At Peachy Keen, we love that mothers and daughters can come together and shop for clothing and accessories that fit both of their styles. low-self-esteem-one-tree-hill

As a women in my 20s, I absolutely love fashion and everything it encompasses. I read fashion blogs, magazines, and even coordinate fashion events. As my interest in fashion increased, I noticed myself viewing the way I looked in a completely different light. Suddenly, I believed my legs were too big, my stomach was too fat and my arms were huge. Sadly, I've seen the same shift in confidence in my mother. As work began to get crazy, she had less time to workout at the gym. Within a few weeks, my Mom was saying "I need to go on a diet! My arms are so flabby." In all reality, my mother is a perfectly healthy size for both her height and weight.

In Dove's newest campaign, the company aims to show the difference between how women see themselves and how others see them. At first, women were asked to describe themselves to a sketch artist who could not see them. Next, a person who they had just met them came in and described the women to the same artist. After this was completed, the women saw both pictures side by side. With these images, women were able to see how they view themselves versus how others view them. While everyone has parts of themselves they don't enjoy, we should always embrace them. The way we view ourselves isn't always the way the world sees us.

Last September we wrote a blog called "Too Much Photoshop." Shortly after, Jennifer Lawrence was featured in a Dior ad portraying her as somewhat "unreal." As you can see in the picture below, Jennifer looks stunning. However, she stated to reporters, "Of course it's Photoshopped. People don't look like that!"

Speaking of looking unreal, Barbie is often recognized as the girl everyone emulates: she can have any career she wants, she has the best boyfriend, and the cutest red convertible. Since I was young, I idolized Barbie. Even though her features are unrealistic, we didn't notice it growing up. barbie-body

For example, if Barbie was human her wrists would only be 3.5 inches and she would not be able to lift anything without breaking her bones. Not only would Barbie not be able to lift her head, she also wouldn't be able to walk. In real life, Barbie would have 6 inch ankles and a child size 3 foot, making her unable to support the rest of her body weight. The only reason Barbie looks pretty is because she's plastic; she would never be able to live as a human. While Barbie teaches young girls they can grow up to be anything they want, it don't give a realistic image of what a women's body should look like.

If you feel self conscious about your body, we are here to let you know that you are not alone. We encourage all of our peaches to try on different brands, styles and colors of clothing no matter how they view themselves. At Peachy Keen we love real women, curves and all! Come in today and try on some of our amazing, new styles, and remember you truly are more beautiful than you think.
